In the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina sent out a request for loaned forklifts via Feeding America. ALAN (American Logistics Aid Network) shared the request with MHEDA and within an hour Gregory Poole Lift Systems was able to loan 2 forklifts to help with the relief effort. We thank Second Harvest for their work in helping the people affected by the flooding from Hurricane Matthew and are glad that we could assist.
Here are some stats:
The food bank serves approximately 200,000 people in 7 counties around Raleigh.
During a typical month they distribute about 850,000 lbs of food. Since the flood they have distributed 1.2 million lbs (41% increase in demand)
The forklifts have allowed them to bring on additional volunteers and staff to meet the demand. Because of the type of tires on the lifts, they were able to use them outside and set up a drive-through food distribution in their parking lot.
The pallets of water shown in the photo are going to Lumberton, which lost their water treatment facility due to flooding from Matthew. The school system is planning to re-open on Monday and the water will be used at the schools.

RALEIGH, NC (June 30, 2016) – Gregory Poole Lift Systems delivered five new Hyster® H450HD-EC Empty Container Handlers to the Virginia Port Authority this week, fulfilling the need for additional cargo handling equipment to handle increasing port volume. The Port Authority has awarded Gregory Poole Lift Systems a 10-year contract to fulfill their empty container handler requirements.
“This long term agreement with Gregory Poole and Hyster, whom have been a reliable mainstay in The Port of Virginia for much time, is representative of our commitment to safety, quality, innovation and sustainability,” said Bill Pierangelino, Vice President, Terminal Support and Engineering, Virginia International Terminals.
With the expansion of the Panama Canal almost complete, ports in the eastern United States are bracing for additional port traffic and increased cargo volumes. The Canal’s expansion will allow passage of ships with up to 14,000 TEUs, almost three times the current 5,000 TEU capacity. The Port of Virginia is the only east coast port with congressional authorization for 55-foot depth channels. Gregory Poole Lift Systems partners with the Port Authority to provide material handling equipment and services that address this increasing demand. Three of the Hyster empty container handlers will be used at Pinners Point Container Yard and the other two will be used at Virginia International Terminals’ location at Norfolk International Terminals.
“We value our longstanding relationship with the Virginia Port Authority as a full-service provider of material handling equipment and services,” said Hal Ingram, Group Vice President – Lift Systems, Gregory Poole Equipment Company. “We are committed to rightsizing their fleet with the most compatible equipment and working around the clock to maintain uptime and drive efficiency savings.”
The Hyster full range of Big Trucks offers material handling capacities up to 105,000 lbs., together with high reliability, exceptional performance and a low cost of operation. The Hyster H450-500HD-EC series empty container handlers are versatile trucks designed for up to 7/8-high stacking in applications such as sea ports and sea terminal operations. These trucks provide superior performance in all aspects of empty container handling, lowering the cost of a container move. The trucks feature an EPA Tier 4 Final compliant Cummins diesel engine, delivering as much as 22 percent lower fuel consumption over prior models and competitive products. The unique mast design and curved tempered glass windshield create the best all-around visibility available.
“The completion of the Panama Canal expansion and the new Post-Panamax vessels are going to radically shift maritime traffic across vital international lanes,” said Brett Schemerhorn, President of Big Trucks for Hyster Company. “We understand the potential direct impact this will have on U.S. ports and the necessary modernization and expansion required to accommodate these new economies of scale. Hyster® Big Trucks play a pivotal role in moving cargo at ports worldwide and are designed to ensure we are delivering the best, most dependable lift trucks to meet our customer’s needs.”

This is the fifth consecutive year that Gregory Poole has been awarded MVP status. They must satisfy criteria in the following important areas:
Gregory Poole Lift Systems has been in business since 1951 and now has 16 full-service facilities across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. In addition, this year they completed the acquisition of three other material handling companies: Dougherty Equipment Company, VBS Inc. “Since our founding in 1951, we have built our organization on the core values of integrity and excellence in all that we do,” said Hal Ingram, Group Vice President, Lift Systems, Gregory Poole Equipment Company. “We have pulled from the best of several well-respected and high-performing organizations to create a top-notch team, and we can now provide customers with more reduced costs and lower total cost of ownership than ever before, along with a full range of Hyster® and Yale® forklift trucks from Class I to Class V.”

It is a culture that not only attracts, but helps retain talented professionals to better serve not only the customer, but the communities in which they operate. Employees clearly understand the values under which the operation is accountable, and how they are expected to deliver quality goods and services to the marketplace.”

Every material handling operation has its own specific needs, which is why we love the diverse lineup of Hyster and Yale equipment. Which machine is right for your operation?
Ground Level Transport
For transporting pallets around your warehouse, both Hyster and Yale offer motorized pallet trucks able to handle loads of 4,000-8,000 lbs and tow tractors with load capacities of 10,000-15,000 lbs.
Both Hyster and Yale also offer an Enclosed End Rider Truck for heavier loads, ergonomically designed with operator comfort in mind and able to handle loads of up to 10,000 lbs.
Indoor Lifting and Stacking
Both Hyster and Yale make excellent 3- and 4-wheel electric forklifts that are perfect for indoor (and outdoor) operations. For tight spaces with two to three levels of stacking, Yale’s Electric Straddle Stackers are the ideal choice. The adjustable outriggers provide a stable base and they’re capable of handling pallets of up to 4,000 lbs. Yale also manufactures Narrow Aisle Reach Trucks that allow for greater height reach with impressive maneuverability in tight spaces.
For loads up to 36,000 lbs, you’ll find the right lift truck from either Hyster or Yale to do the job. However, your heaviest loads are a job for Hyster’s high capacity lift trucks.
You can’t beat Hyster’s high capacity forklifts and container handlers for high-volume shipping yards. The RS45 and RS46 series Container ReachStackers offer the best maneuverability in the industry, with a short turning radius and a high-strength boom that can stack 9'6" or 8'6" containers 5-high in the first row.
